The World of Roy Hitchen  - Part 2

When not on duty with the Cavern Beatles, one of Roy's hobbies is travelling the country looking for old cars to sit in and make "brum-brum" noises.  Of course, there is a bit more to it than that..... He can accurately impersonate 26 different types of engine, from the simple 2-stroke, to the more complicated sound of the Wankle rotary engine.  One can never fail to recognise the wry smile on his face, similar to the one in this picture, whenever there is a Unimog turning over within earshot.

Turn the conversation to Bentley's, and Roy's face will light up with delight.  These are his joy.  I recall a time at Warwick services when he was admiring a dark blue, late 50's model.  He practically stalked the driver round the shop until he returned to his vehicle.  Roy then proceeded to grill the driver about the cars history.  Fortunately, the driver was also an enthusiast and decided not to press charges.  Roy was reminded that we actually had a gig to get to, and reluctantly and forlornly, turned away from the car with a sigh.  Still craning his neck as we hit the slip-road, Roy confessed that this was one of the most beautiful "ladies" he had ever seen.
And so to our picture above.  This photo was taken recently, and you have to admit, it's a beautiful motor.  Roy's own caption of "A pig in shit" is most fitting.

Perhaps even more likely to get Roy in a froth, is the prospect of being given the opportunity to sit at the steering wheel of an old Fire Engine.  Jim fixed it for Roy.....as you can see!!
