The
World of Roy Hitchen - Part 3
Friday
18th February 05
Arts
Centre, Southport.
The Cavern Beatles have
a night off, but does this mean that Roy should be
denied the chance to dress up and wear wigs?...
No, I don't think so.
When he first joined the band, Roy's knowledge of the
Beatles was limited to whatever was thrown at him
during 'coffee evenings' at Rick's. His drumming
style was definitely in the John Bonham/Ian Paice
school. So now, whenever he opportunity presents
itself, Roy will grow a quick beard (takes him
about 12 hours and a Boots No.7 mascara brush), and
don something spangly to knock seven bells out of a
vistalite drumkit in the style of Led Zeppelins 'one
hundred and eighty pounds of glory', John Bonham.
Tonight, Led Zed, were performing at Southport Arts
Centre to an admittedly small but very enthusiastic
crowd.
It seems that the days when Led Zed could pack 900
people into the The Royal Court in Liverpool may have
passed. This is a great shame, as this is a
truly stunning group, recreating a live Led Zeppelin
concert with astounding accuracy and sincerity.
The concert inspired me to go home, slam on my
Zeppelin DVD, and mong out to "In My Time of
Dying"... well well well... so I could die
easy. Nice one Roy, Pete, Dave and Gary!
